Set up and check business email DNS

Prepare mailboxes, publish the correct mail and authentication records, and distinguish DNS checks from an actual delivery test.

Prepare mailboxes before changing mail routing

List the people and shared addresses your business needs. Check which addresses require their own mailbox and which can use a supported alias. Confirm purchased seats and create the required mailboxes in the email provider panel before routing incoming mail there. An email address does not exist merely because its domain has an MX record.

If you are replacing another provider, make a migration plan for existing messages, contacts and calendars. DNS changes route new traffic; they do not copy old messages. Keep access to the previous mailboxes until the migration and delivery checks are complete.

Use the records for your actual service

MX records identify the servers that receive mail for a domain. SPF describes authorized sending sources. DKIM publishes information used to verify signatures added by your mail provider; the selector is provider-specific. DMARC describes how receivers should handle authentication and alignment results.

Copy the exact record names and values supplied for your purchased service and region. Do not guess an MX destination, DKIM selector or priority from another customer example. Keep non-mail records unchanged. If you use other sending services, such as invoices or newsletters, account for them before replacing an SPF policy. Multiple separate SPF policies for one name are not a safe way to combine senders.

Check configuration, then test delivery

HostMixo Email DNS check shows published records for a domain. Enter the actual selector when checking DKIM; an empty result for an invented selector cannot establish that DKIM is absent. A temporary lookup error is different from a confirmed missing record.

The tool does not log into your mailbox, send mail or prove inbox delivery. Send and receive a message between accounts you control and inspect the receiving system authentication results. Test any application that sends from your domain as well as your normal mail client. A working MX record alone says nothing about outgoing authentication.

For an existing HostMixo email service, open My Services and Email setup for its dated mailbox allocation and available setup records. Manage mailboxes requires confirmation of your Nishadil account password. Never share that password, mailbox passwords or private DKIM signing keys in a support ticket.
